Rabbits, particularly House rabbits, have become an increasingly popular pet over the last 20 years. Veterinary science has struggled to keep up but in recent years the profession has realised that these animals are no longer simply a 'child's pet' and our knowledge base as increased dramatically. Michael Stanford worked for 4 years with Frances Harcourt-Brown before setting up his own practice in Cheshire.
The practice has invested in specialised dental equipment specifically designed for treating rabbits and we always hospitalise these patients separately from potential predators such as raptors or dogs & cats. We are pioneers in the use of insufflation for endoscopy. This permits us to perform endoscopy and keyhole surgery on rabbits potentially permitting the veterinary surgeon to make an instant diagnosis as in birds & reptiles. Our laboratory specialises in processing rabbit samples and was the first in the UK to offer the PCR test for E. Cuniculi. We stock Excel products including basic diets and hay.
We also offer first opinion and referral services for other, increasingly popular pet mammals, such as ferrets, guinea pigs, hamsters and small primates.
